Today I would like to share with you some studies from Holy Island Poustinia of The Presentation in the Temple to the Most Holy Mother of God. As usual, click on Picture to enlarge.

And here is another holy place of Vladimir region of Russia. Holy Island Poustinia of The Presentation in the Temple to the Most Holy Mother of God located close to small settlement Vvedensky, which is near Pokrov town in Vladimir region of Russia. This is a convent, which located on a small island on Vedenskoye Lake.

The convent was found in the end if 17-th century as monastery and became nunnery in 1993.The lake where the convent was built previously had name Vyatskoye (in honor of Russian river Vyatka).

Two monks retired to the island on the lake and built up chapel and cell there. But they were alone not so long. There were a lot of rumors regarding these two holy people and people started arriving to this place to join two monks. Afterwards the chapel were moved to the road to Vladimir.

 In 1722-1724 the convent had financial problems and was merged with St. John Evangelist's pustinia. But in 1729 the convent became independent again and in 1732 new cathedral of The Presentation in the Temple to the Most Holy Mother of God and church in honor of Nicholas Wonderworker were found there.

 In 1876-1878 the church of Nicholas Wonderworker was renewed and enlarged. In 1891-1894 the cathedral was replaced with the new one: it was built up of red bricks.

In 1918 the convent was closed and nationalized but divine services were in church and cathedral till 1924. The rest of convent's buildings were used for retirement home and orphanage afterwards.

In 1932 the teenagers prison was placed on a territory of the convent. In 1940 all the rest of convent's property was moved to Pokrov. The school for prisoners was arranged in cathedral, and cinema in church.

Only in 1994 all buildings were given back to Russian Orthodox Church.

And in 1995 the convent got nunnery status. Buildings of the monastery were seriously damaged during Sovet times and cathedral still closed for renovation.
